Heartbreaking Loss: Jasper Anglican ChurchPlease pray and offer your help to our St. Mary and St. George Anglican Family We are invariably distressed by the news that Jasper's Anglican church, St. Mary and St. George, has been lost in the wildfire rampage taking over Jasper National Park. Built in 1914, it was a beloved community landmark and heritage building, with a stalwart congregation. In times of urgent care and need, please offer your condolences and support to the Jasper Anglican Church, who will soon be looking for a new way forward. Below there is a button link to their website, where donations can be made to church relief efforts. For more infomation visit:

Rocky Mountain Jasper Community ReliefPlease lend your support to the Banff Canmore Foundation! To our parishioners: We are devasted to hear about the destructive fires in Jasper. It breaks our hearts to know individuals and families are being displaced and evacuated indefinitely from their homes, livelihoods and places of worship. We pray for everyone's safety and comfort during these cruel times, and for the fire-fighters, first responders, nurses, physicians and other emergency support workers for their diligence and bravery. The Banff Canmore Foundation's Rocky Mountain Community Relief Fund is supporting first-responders and emergency relief efforts throughout Jasper, and are assisting anyone who has been affected by the fires, in and around the area. Please support or give whatever you are able to this local charity. Through the love of God, may everyone be guided safely out of danger zones and be guarded in the communities which keep them. What's New at St. George'sCatch Up on All the Exciting Updates in Reverend Seth's Absence! Dear St. George's Community, I hope you're all doing well! I wanted to give you a quick update and let you know that I am away from July 15th to August 12th. While I'm away, everything at St. George's will continue as usual, and there are some exciting things happening that I want to share with you. Great news! We've just received a Town of Banff community grant for $3000, which is a huge support for our free community meals. It's a wonderful blessing, and we're so grateful. We do need more volunteers to keep this going, so if you can spare some time, please consider signing up. You can do that by clicking here. Our Playtime at the Pines sessions have been a fantastic success. It's been wonderful to see families and children (ages 0-6) enjoying our church hall filled with toys and the opportunity for parents to connect. Your participation and support make this all possible. Tuesday Bible Study: 321 Course We’re shaking things up a bit! Our Tuesday Bible study will now be a faith discussion group led by Ji Won Baxter. She'll be taking us through the 321 Course, which is great for strengthening the faith of believers and welcoming non-Christians to explore the Christian faith. We'd love for you to join us! Missional Funding Board Grant: We’re thrilled to announce that we received a grant from the Missional Funding Board, allowing us to hire Ji Won Baxter as our Artistic Outreach Coordinator. Ji Won will be leading various artistic initiatives, book studies, and faith exploration groups, helping to make St. George's a true community hub in Banff. We're excited about the creative and spiritual growth this will bring. Pastoral Care: Even though I’ll be away, pastoral care is still available. We have Diocesan clergy on call to assist with any needs. If you need to connect with clergy, please reach out to Ji Won Baxter, who will coordinate with them. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. I appreciate each of you and look forward to seeing you when I return in August. May God bless you all during this time. In Christ, Rev. Seth Enriquez Rector, St. George in the Pines Anglican Church For more infomation visit:

God The Arbitrary: Being Good Isn't EnoughTell Me Strange Things... - Sunday, July 14, 2024 Jesus says that at the final judgment, many who performed miracles and called Him Lord will be told He doesn't know them. How do we make sense of this? Is the Christian faith a dice roll? Does what we do or believe matter? Do we take these passages at face value, or is there a deeper understanding? What do they tell us about God's character and Jesus' message? Have a listen and let's discover the truth about what the Bible says and discover the freedom and hope we have in Jesus. WHAT WE'RE READING, LISTENING TO, AND WATCHINGEdifying content that has deeply informed our work this season! - How Solzhenitsyn Found Himself—and God Amid Soviet atheism, Alexander Solzhenitsyn's time in the gulag led him to discover faith in God through Jesus. His journey shows the incredible power of redemption and God's grace, even in the darkest times. - How Reading Grief Memoirs Helped Cody Delistraty Understand His Loss in New Ways Cody Delistraty's experience with grief after his mother's death highlights the power of community and written reflections to navigate and make sense of grief. - In Offense of Church is a powerful sermon by Pastor Kevin Makins connecting the effects of social media, our allegiance to technology that undermines our humanity, and the truth found in Jesus. - How Liberals Talk About Children The New Yorker critiques certain left-leaning progressives' views on children in a review by Jay Caspian Kang of Anastasia Berg and Rachel Wiseman's book, "What Are Children For?"— it's a great read that encourages reflection no matter your political stance. (also linking a helpful review at CT) - Our New Religion Isn't Enough This article explores how modern secular beliefs might fall short of the depth and fulfillment that traditional religious practices offer—definitely worth a read if you're curious about the role of spirituality in today's world! - The Justification of the Godforsaken by Jürgen Moltmann explores the complex issue of how to reconcile the suffering of victims with the forgiveness of sinners, proposing a justice system that prioritizes healing for victims rather than focusing only on perpetrators. - Performance-enhancing vices is a provocative article by Sabrina Little exploring how traits often seen as negative, like selfishness and pride, might help athletes perform better, but these "performance-enhancing vices" could negatively impact their moral character and personal relationships. - Making Sense of God by Tim Keller presents a compelling case for belief in Christianity, addressing the doubts and questions of skeptics by exploring how faith provides meaning, satisfaction, identity, justice, and hope. Definitely check it out! |
